Cover letter — for Melissa & the DOF Studios team

Dear Melissa,

I'm applying for the Creative Content Producer & Digital Strategist contract. DOF — Department of Finery — is building a brand universe a community wants to live in, not just shop, and a relaunch is exactly the moment a clear content system earns its keep. So rather than just claim "proficient in Canva and Shopify," I built a live hub with real relaunch content inside it, in your own palette. You can review everything before we speak:

Let me be straight about who I am, because the standard I work to starts with honesty. I'm a digital content producer, strategist and Shopify operator who works behind the lens — not on-camera fashion talent, and not a fashion photographer. Your brief asks for someone comfortable both in front of and behind the camera, with a fashion-shoot portfolio. That on-camera, high-fashion-craft half is where I'd pair with you, your talent and a photographer. What I own end-to-end is everything around it: the content strategy and calendar, producing and editing in Canva, CapCut and Figma, the Shopify site, captions and newsletters in the house voice, scheduling and publishing across Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn, community engagement, influencer coordination, and the weekly performance report. The brief itself says you want "the Editor behind the lens" — that's me precisely.

Why I'm a genuinely strong operator for DOF specifically: I run a live Shopify store every day (products, collections, email, discounts), I build brand-consistent content daily in Canva and CapCut, and my background is detail-first — an English Literature degree for caption and newsletter writing, a Law degree for following brand and editorial guidelines exactly, and years of Australian government work where everything was documented, consistent and measured. Door 02 holds Canva designs I made in DOF's aubergine, rust and chartreuse with a Made-in-Italy line; Door 03 is a 90-day relaunch strategy; Door 04 shows how 12–15 retainer hours a week can hold a full-time content presence with an AI-assisted production workflow.

Where I'd grow or lean on the team: on-camera presence and fashion-shoot photography/videography craft (I art-direct and edit, I don't model or shoot fashion campaigns); a deep fashion-content portfolio (mine is digital/brand content, not runway); and Klaviyo specifically, which I'd pick up quickly from hands-on email-marketing work in comparable tools. I'd rather tell you that now than at the interview.

I'm Melbourne-based, available immediately, comfortable working hybrid and directly with a founder in a fast-moving start-up, and genuinely drawn to work where craftsmanship meets a digital relaunch. I'd love to walk you through the studio and the strategy.

— Khalid

How I fit — the brief, point by point

Mapped honestly against your responsibilities and requirements. Aubergine = a clear strength. Amber = where I'd grow into it or pair with you, talent and a photographer. No point is hidden.

— Content & strategy
Social & content strategy on brand pillars
I build content strategies and pillar systems for my own brand and clients. Door 03 is a full 90-day relaunch strategy from DOF's real story.
Strength
— Content & strategy
Editorial direction & visual storytelling
I set editorial direction and art-direct content across platforms — the producer's eye for sequence, mood and consistency. Door 02 shows it in your palette.
Strength
— Digital ops
Content calendar, scheduling & publishing
Owning calendars and publishing with precision across Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn is daily work for me. Door 02 includes a 30-day calendar.
Strength
— Digital ops
Website management (Shopify)
I run a live Shopify store — products, collections, content, discounts, email. Keeping site imagery and messaging matched to campaigns is exactly what I do.
Strength
— Content & strategy
Captions, newsletters & campaign messaging
English Literature degree and years of government writing — clear, on-voice copy is a core strength. Voice samples in Door 02.
Strength
— Toolkit
CapCut, Figma & Canva
All three are tools I use regularly — Canva and CapCut for production and edits, Figma for layout and design systems. The exact stack named in the brief.
Strength
— Performance
Performance tracking & weekly reporting
Years as a government data/analyst and current AI-evaluation work — turning metrics into "what to make next" weekly is second nature. Loop shown in Door 03.
Strength
— Digital ops
Community engagement (comments & DMs)
Responding daily to build a brand-to-customer connection, in-voice and on-time — I run this as a routine with a tone guide, not ad hoc.
Strength
— Digital ops
Asset coordination & editing raw footage
Organising and editing raw production assets into platform cuts (Reels, stories, product clips) in CapCut — editing and asset hygiene are strengths.
Strength
— Partnerships
Influencer coordination (outreach → feedback)
I can own the full process — outreach, briefing, receiving assets, creative feedback — as a system. The fashion-influencer network itself is where I'd build relationships.
Strength · process
— Attributes
Start-up spirit, founder-direct, hybrid
I run my own studio and work directly with founders in fast-paced settings — Melbourne-based for hybrid, entrepreneurial by default.
Strength
— Growth edge
In front of AND behind the camera
I'm the editor behind the lens — I art-direct, shoot simple product/social footage and edit. On-camera presence and being the face is where I'd pair with you or your talent, not overstate it.
Pair with talent
— Growth edge
Strong fashion-shoot portfolio & craft
My portfolio is digital/brand content, not fashion campaign photography. For elevated shoots I'd art-direct and work to your brand and a photographer rather than claim shooter-level craft.
Growth edge
— Growth edge
Klaviyo & deep Adobe Suite
I have working knowledge of Photoshop/InDesign and hands-on email marketing; Klaviyo specifically I'd ramp quickly from comparable tools. Honest "highly regarded," not yet expert.

A quick read · the relaunch's real shape

Framed as a producer's read of the role, not a critique — where I see the work landing and where the value compounds for a 12–15 hour retainer.

— Observation 01 · Strength
A relaunch is a systems job before it's a shoot
The brief pairs creation with "end-to-end production… through to scheduling and performance reporting." The footage matters, but the multiplier is the system around it — pillars, calendar, Klaviyo flows, the weekly loop. That operating layer is exactly where I'm strongest, and it's what makes 12–15 hours hold a full presence.
— Observation 02 · Opportunity
Shopify + social must move as one
"Maintain and update website content (Shopify) to ensure imagery and messaging are consistent with current social campaigns." Most content creators stop at the feed. Running the store and the social as one synced system — same hero, same story, same drop — is a genuine strength of mine.
— Observation 03 · Honest fit
Behind the lens, paired for the front
The brief wants both an on-camera presence and a strong shoot portfolio. I'm honest that I'm the producer/editor/strategist behind the lens. On a founder-led relaunch, the most authentic on-camera face is often the founder — I'd produce, art-direct and edit around you and your talent, which is where a behind-the-lens operator adds the most.
